Harvester Park Little League 2014 District All-Star Teams
The purpose of the District All-Star season is to provide advanced players that have demonstrated the necessary skills the experience of a high level of competition in a tournament environment. Questions may be directed to the
of the league.
During the month of June, coaches from each team were asked to submit their player evaluations, including their All-Star nominations and their desire to be an All-Star coach. The League President sent out a reminder notice to all coaches for this information, which was submitted to the All-Star Committee.
The All-Star Committee is made up of the President and select HPLL board members. With this in mind, the committee evaluates nominated players based on submitted input as objectively as possible to put together the most balanced and competitive team per age group.
As one might expect, there will always be, and have always been, legitimate reasons why the last few players selected to the teams and the last few left off could be switched around. The HPLL President and All-Star Committee have volunteered hundreds of hours this year to provide the best possible experience for the children and members of our league. Please remember that at the end of the day, whether one agrees with the final teams or not, significant steps were taken to ensure numerous people’s opinions and thoughts were taken into consideration. This process at times may be complicated, it is a very good thing overall for the league.
All-Star Coach Selection
The HPLL Executive Board appoints the All-Star coaches. Criteria include:
Child qualifies for All-Star team on his or her own merits.
Interest in volunteering and commitment to the HPLL Program.
Availability (requires some dedicated time investment).
Management skills with players and parents.
All-Star Player Selection
Necessary skills to compete at an All-Star level.
Demonstrated performance during the regular season. Selection is based on performance this year, but not just hitting – includes overall abilities and baseball sense.
Selection is for the best District All-Star team, not necessarily the best 14 players. If many of the nominated players can only play one position, that limits the coach and the team defensively. Versatile players or specific skills MAY be better for the overall team.
Who is going to be coach is not a consideration in selecting All-Stars. (If no one volunteers from the selected players, then the board will decide if another player whose parent is willing to coach is in the best interest of the league and the team. If no one volunteers, then we will not field a team)
The All-Star participation fee is approximately $150 per player to help defray the cost of the uniforms and tournaments. The teams normally play in 3 tournaments starting in late June and running throughout most of July.
PLEASE NOTE!! IF THERE IS NOT ENOUGH PLAYER AND/OR COACH PARTICIPATION FOR A GIVEN TEAM, THE LEAGUE RESERVES THE RIGHT TO MODIFY OR REMOVE THE SELECTED TEAM IF IT IS IN THE BEST INTEREST OF THE PLAYERS AND THE LEAGUE. FINAL CONFIRMATION OF A COMPLETE TEAM WILL BE SENT OUT BY THE COACHES AFTER ALL PLAYERS HAVE RESPONDED.
Due to the time constraints of ordering uniforms, once the selected players are posted to the league web site they have 3 days to accept their position on the team. If there is no response or the player cannot play on the team, the alternates will then be selected to the team.
